The dataset is built based on the article by Wu & Yu (2023) – “How Does Environmental Corporate Social Responsibility Affect Technological Innovation? The Role of Green Entrepreneurial Orientation and Green Intellectual Capital.” This study aims to explore the two-way effects of corporate environmental social responsibility on firms’ technological innovation: process innovation and product innovation. Additionally, it investigates whether such effects are dependent on green intellectual capital and green entrepreneurial orientation.

Abstract:

This study aims to investigate the impact of corporate environmental social responsibility on the two dimensions of firms’ technological innovation: process innovation and product innovation. It also examines whether such impact depends on green intellectual capital and green entrepreneurial orientation. Drawing on dynamic capability theory and resource dependence theory, we hypothesize the mediating role of green entrepreneurial orientation and the moderating role of green intellectual capital in the indirect relationships between corporate environmental social responsibility and process and product innovations. Based on a sample of 241 Chinese firms, the results indicate that corporate environmental social responsibility positively influences process and product innovations, and these relationships are mediated by green entrepreneurial orientation. Moreover, green intellectual capital positively moderates the mediating effects of green entrepreneurial orientation. The findings contribute to a better theoretical understanding of the role of corporate environmental social responsibility in technological innovation by demonstrating that it can promote process and product innovations through green entrepreneurial orientation. Theoretical implications also shed light on the boundaries of corporate environmental social responsibility from the perspective of intellectual capital. Furthermore, the practical implications offer insights for managing firms’ environmental behaviors to encourage green entrepreneurial orientation and foster technological innovation for sustainable competitive advantage.
